Quoting the Florida Statutes, “Practice of chiropractic medicine” means a non-combative principle and practice consisting of the science, philosophy, and art of the adjustment, manipulation, and treatment of the human body in which vertebral subluxations and other malpositioned articulations and structures that are interfering with the normal generation, transmission, and expression of nerve impulse between the brain, organs, and tissue cells of the body, thereby causing disease, are adjusted, manipulated, or treated, thus restoring the normal flow of nerve impulse which produces normal function and consequent health by chiropractic physicians. Needless to say, one must be a licensed chiropractor to perform this service.
The requirements for chiropractic licensure in Florida are obtaining a four year bachelors degree followed by an additional four years of professional chiropractic college leading to a degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic or DC. Once this degree is obtained one must pass vigorous national board examinations. Then one must apply for licensure in the individual states.
Chiropractic does not require a hospital residency as a medical physician’s requirement for licensure. Other differences while in college include that chiropractic has many more hours focused on neurology, human anatomy and orthopedics, whereas medicine focuses more on pharmacology.
Some typical musculoskeletal and neurological problems helped at our clinic using chiropractic care include headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, arm pain, mid back pain, low back pain, hip pain, sciatic, leg pain, knee pain and foot pain.
